Max Greengard arrived in the Chicago area in 1885. Sometime between then and 1889 he opened a retail furniture store at 11020 Michigan Ave. in Roseland,. At that time, Roseland was a suburb of Chicago, annexed to the city in 1889. Around 1928, the company moved to 3400 S. Halsted St. and changed their name to: M. Greengard and Sons. The business continued in that location until 1974.
